The artwork, not a thumbnail

Every music catalogue stores its covers at several sizes and serves small ones by default – 100, 300 or 600 pixels – because that is all a phone screen needs. The master artwork is usually much bigger. Apple's catalogue keeps release artwork up to 3000 × 3000 pixels, and Deezer's goes to 1800 × 1800. The album art downloader asks for the largest size first and steps down until the catalogue answers, so you always get the biggest version that exists.

When the song came from somewhere else

Songs downloaded from YouTube carry the video's thumbnail – a frame, not the album cover – and Spotify's images are capped at 640 pixels. For those, the bot looks up the same release in Apple's catalogue and fetches its master artwork instead. The original image stays in the list as a fallback.

In Telegram

Under the cover photo of every song the bot sends there is a Download cover (full size) button. The image arrives as a document, not a photo, because Telegram recompresses photos – and the point is to have every pixel.

How do I get an album cover in high resolution?

Search the album or one of its songs and download the cover. The tool asks the catalogues for their largest version – Apple's master artwork is usually 3000 × 3000 pixels, Deezer's up to 1800 × 1800.

Why is the cover in my music file so small?

Music files embed a small version so they stay light, and Telegram's music player shows a 320 × 320 thumbnail. The original artwork is many times larger, and that is what this downloads.

The song came from YouTube. Can I still get its real cover?

Yes. A YouTube thumbnail is a video frame, not album art, so for those the bot looks up the same release in Apple's catalogue and fetches its real cover.

Can I use the cover for anything?

Album art belongs to the artist or label. Personal use – a wallpaper, your own playlist, a phone's lock screen – is common; publishing or selling it is not yours to do without permission.
