What "YouTube to MP3" really gives you

Most "YouTube to MP3" sites download the video's audio and push it through an MP3 encoder at 320 kbps. The number looks impressive, but it cannot add back detail that was never there: YouTube's audio streams top out around 128 to 160 kbps. The result is a bigger file that sounds the same or slightly worse.

This tool does the opposite. Audio takes the AAC stream YouTube already serves and copies it into an M4A file without decoding it at all – bit for bit what YouTube plays, with nothing lost. It is also faster, because there is no encoding step. A four-minute song comes out at about 4 MB.

Audio HQ is for when you want the best YouTube has. Many videos also carry an Opus stream at a higher bitrate than the AAC one. The bot picks the highest-bitrate stream available and encodes it once, to 256 kbps AAC, because Telegram and many players treat a bare Opus file as a document rather than music. A four-minute song in Audio HQ is about 8 MB.

When to use it

  • Music that is only on YouTube – live sessions, covers, remixes, old recordings nobody put on a streaming service.
  • Podcasts, talks and lectures to listen to offline or with the screen off.
  • Audiobooks and language lessons that were published as videos.

If what you want is a normal studio song, searching for it by name with the song downloader is usually better: it finds the official recording, checks it is the right one, and tags it with the real artist, album and artwork rather than the video's thumbnail.

Cover art and tags

The downloaded audio carries the video's thumbnail as its cover image and the video title and uploader in its tags. In Telegram the file shows up in the music player with that cover. On a phone it appears in your music library like any other song.

Getting part of the audio

Need only the chorus, or a 30-second ringtone? Get the audio first, then reply to it in the bot with the range you want, for example 1:02-1:32. The audio cutter copies exactly that part out without re-encoding it, so the piece sounds exactly like the full track.

Frequently asked questions

Is the file really MP3?

The file is M4A – AAC audio, the same format YouTube stores. Converting it to MP3 would mean decoding it and compressing it a second time, which makes it bigger and slightly worse, never better. Every phone, computer, car stereo and music app made in the last fifteen years plays M4A.

What is the difference between Audio and Audio HQ?

Audio copies YouTube's AAC stream (about 128 kbps) straight into a file – instant and lossless. Audio HQ starts from the highest-bitrate stream YouTube has, usually Opus at around 150–160 kbps, and encodes it to 256 kbps AAC so it plays everywhere. When the best stream already is the AAC one, only Audio is offered because the two would be the same file.

Is 320 kbps better?

Not when the source is YouTube. YouTube's own audio tops out around 160 kbps, so a "320 kbps MP3" made from it is the same sound in a file twice the size. We keep what is really there.

Does the audio file include the cover and the title?

Yes. The video's thumbnail is converted and embedded as cover art, and the title and uploader are written into the file's tags, so it looks right in your music library.

Can I download a whole YouTube playlist as MP3?
